Essential Rules for Driving in Thailand

Foreign drivers must hold a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) or a driving licence from their home country written in English, and carry these documents at all times while driving.
Thailand practices left-hand traffic, meaning vehicles have the steering wheel on the right-hand side and drive on the left side of the road.
Important safety regulations must be strictly followed: all occupants must wear seat belts, children under 6 years old must use a child car seat, and speed limits must not be exceeded.
Drivers must never run red lights, must always yield and stop for pedestrians at crosswalks, must never drive against traffic, and must not use mobile phones unless using a hands-free device.
In case of an accident, contact the insurance company immediately (all Carrentia vehicles are fully covered). Do not move the vehicle from the scene unless necessary for safety, and wait for the authorities or insurance representative to arrive.
